Hearty bean, ham and meatball soup (soppa tal-fazola bix-xikel tal-perzut)
In a waterless pan cook two chopped onions till soft. Add 1 tsp ground cloves and 1 tbs curry powder. Add two tins red kidney beans, two chopped potatoes, a handful of chopped celery, one piece of smoked ham (with the bone). Prepare the meatballs: mix together a chopped onion, 250g minced lean pork and beef, 4 sausages skin removed, a grating of nutmeg, chopped parsley; form into small balls and cook in the soup.
