Date Molasses & walnut cake

Made this cake using canned Iraqi date molasses called dibis in Iraq (can be found from shops selling Middle Eastern food) and walnuts flavoured with ground anise seed and orange zest.
In a bowl pour 1/2 cup date molasses ,1/4 cup oil,1/2 cup milk and whisk ,then sift over it 2 cups self raising flour,1/2 teaspoon baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon ground anise seeds .Mix well until you have a smooth batter. In another small bowl mix 1/2 cup roughly chopped walnuts with 1 tablespoon brown sugar and some orange zest and a pinch of cardamom.
Put half the cake batter in a greased and floured cake tin ,put the walnut mixture over it then top with the remaining cake batter . Bake in a preheated 175 C oven for about 30 minutes .
Let it stand for a few minutes and take out of the cake tin. While still warm spread 2 teaspoons honey on top gives it a nice glaze and decorate with walnut halves.DSCF1910 DSCF1869 DSCF1871 DSCF1874
